11. How long does the approval process take?
Typically the industry standard ranges from 24 to 48 hours depending on how the paperwork is obtained, the merchant profile and the processing platform. Upon receipt of the application and required supporting documents, the underwriting department will begin the review process of your application. We suggest giving yourself as much time in advance as you can, because in some cases it can take up to a week.
12. Once my application is approved, how do I actually start accepting cards?

PCI compliance is not a one-time process; rather, it is an ongoing activity. Compliance requires annual completion of a self assessment questionnaire (the version is dependent on how your entity processes credit cards) or audit, and may require penetration tests and quarterly scans of external IP addresses (dependent on the cardholder environment and merchant level).

16. Who has to comply with the PCI DSS?
If your business transacts any credit card business (even 1 transaction), then you have to comply with the PCI DSS, even if you use a third party service provider.
PCI compliance is mandatory and needs to be renewed every year.
Merchants and third party providers that process, transmit, or store cardholder data are required to adhere to the PCI DSS. The standard applies to credit card business transacted over all payment channels (point of sale, mail, interactive voice response, and web).
Any business/organization accepting credit cards (even those using a third party), or acting as a service provider, must adhere to the data security standard.
17. Why do merchants need to become PCI compliant?
Identity theft crime continues to grow at an alarming rate. The credit card associations and merchant banks require PCI Compliance as a condition of their agreements with merchants. 20. What is a chargeback and what should I do if I get one?
A chargeback is a processed credit card transaction that is reversed (charged back) to a merchant because the customer or customer’s bank finds something wrong with the transaction.
There are several reasons a transaction can be reversed:
- Authorization error : a transaction was allowed even though the authorization was declined.
- Processing error : incorrect calculation on the sales draft, invalid account number, or expired card.
- Customer disputes : the customer denies taking part in the transaction, claims purchased merchandise or services were never received and an attempt was already made to resolve the dispute, mail order merchandise was defective, or a promised credit was never processed.
If this happens, you will be notified of the dispute and the amount will be debited from your settlement/deposit account if you cannot produce adequate proof that you followed the processing procedure.

21. What is a retrieval copy request?
A retrieval request is a request made by the cardholder’s bank for a copy of a sales draft. Visa and MasterCard require merchants to fulfill this request within a required timeframe to avoid liability for paying back the sale, due to not providing adequate documentation.
