1. How do I know if I have a competitive rate for my business?
Finding your true cost for processing services is not an easy task. Which is better, a small transaction fee or a bundled rate? Is a monthly fee less expensive than an annual fee? The Answer: It depends.
Every business has its own unique set of circumstances that must be considered when making a financial decision like choosing an electronic payment services provider.
Different business types pay different rates, depending on the risk they represent for the bank. For example a retailer, who mainly swipes cards through a terminal, is considered less risky than an e-commerce merchant who processes cards over the internet.
Card present businesses should pay less than card-not-present businesses.
2. How to Calculate My Effective Rate
Follow these quick steps to calculate your TRUE cost for credit card processing:
- Grab your last processing statement and a calculator
- Enter the TOTAL amount deducted from your account for service. Make sure this number includes ALL charges during the statement period (discount rate paid, surcharges, transaction and authorization fees, Batch fees, AVS fees, chargebacks fees, annual and monthly fees etc).
- Divide the number entered in step 2 by the TOTAL amount of sales volume processed during the statement period. This is your effective rate for that time period. We invite you to click here to find out if you have the best possible rate for your business

14. What is PCI Compliance?
The PCI (Payment Card Industry) DSS (data security standard) is a mandatory compliance program resulting from collaboration between the credit card associations (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and JCB) to create common industry security requirements for cardholder data.
15. What does the PCI Compliance process involve?
PCI compliance is not a one-time process; rather, it is an ongoing activity. Compliance requires annual completion of a self assessment questionnaire (the version is dependent on how your entity processes credit cards) or audit, and may require penetration tests and quarterly scans of external IP addresses (dependent on the cardholder environment and merchant level).
See https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/ for more details.
16. Who has to comply with the PCI DSS?
If your business transacts any credit card business (even 1 transaction), then you have to comply with the PCI DSS, even if you use a third party service provider.
PCI compliance is mandatory and needs to be renewed every year.
Merchants and third party providers that process, transmit, or store cardholder data are required to adhere to the PCI DSS. The standard applies to credit card business transacted over all payment channels (point of sale, mail, interactive voice response, and web).
Any business/organization accepting credit cards (even those using a third party), or acting as a service provider, must adhere to the data security standard.
17. Why do merchants need to become PCI compliant?
Identity theft crime continues to grow at an alarming rate. The credit card associations and merchant banks require PCI Compliance as a condition of their agreements with merchants. Moreover, it just makes good business sense in light of recent data and security breaches. The data security best practices incorporated into PCI compliance relates to other compliance areas. While PCI Compliance does not guarantee that breaches will be prevented, it provides a framework and standard methodology to ensure that the businesses are working hard to secure credit card data (and other personal data).
18. When do I have to address PCI Compliance?
Now – If you haven’t already!
If you do not become PCI Compliant, you may incur some financial penalties.

20. What is a chargeback and what should I do if I get one?
A chargeback is a processed credit card transaction that is reversed (charged back) to a merchant because the customer or customer’s bank finds something wrong with the transaction.
There are several reasons a transaction can be reversed:
- Authorization error : a transaction was allowed even though the authorization was declined.
- Processing error : incorrect calculation on the sales draft, invalid account number, or expired card.
- Customer disputes : the customer denies taking part in the transaction, claims purchased merchandise or services were never received and an attempt was already made to resolve the dispute, mail order merchandise was defective, or a promised credit was never processed.
If this happens, you will be notified of the dispute and the amount will be debited from your settlement/deposit account if you cannot produce adequate proof that you followed the processing procedure.
Navidor monitors chargeback activities closely and sends its merchants email alerts to make sure they’re notified on time.

21. What is a retrieval copy request?
A retrieval request is a request made by the cardholder’s bank for a copy of a sales draft. Visa and MasterCard require merchants to fulfill this request within a required timeframe to avoid liability for paying back the sale, due to not providing adequate documentation.
22. Credit card processing / Interchange “101”
- Card Associations set the industry costs: Interchange rates are set by Visa and MasterCard.
- Interchange rates vary upon 3 factors:
- The merchant’s industry type (retail, mail order, Ecommerce…)
- The type of Card processed (credit / debit, individual / corporate, rewards, foreign…)
- How the card is processed (Swiped or keyed-in, present, not-present, online…)
- Merchants have some control over the way they process the cards…but they don’t always know what the Card Associations expect them to do. Click here to tell us more about your business and get started.
23. What is an Internet Payment Gateway ?
A payment gateway is a service that gives merchants the ability to perform real-time credit card authorizations and process credit cards from a website (Ecommerce).
